Privacy policy

Beancount Desktop (for Mac) and Beancount Desktop Companion (for iPhone) collect no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Neither app sends your financial data anywhere.

What stays on your devices

• On the Mac, the app reads and writes your ledger, the plain-text files you choose to open, and keeps its Git history in the same folder. Its settings are stored on your Mac.
• On the iPhone, the companion keeps the context file you import and the drafts you capture inside the app, protected by iOS file encryption while the phone is locked.

How data moves between them

Only when you decide to: the Mac exports a context file and the iPhone exports a drafts file, and you send them yourself with AirDrop, Files, iCloud Drive or any other way you choose. Those files are handled by that service, under its own privacy terms. Treat them as private as your ledger.

Network

The iPhone app never connects to the internet. The Mac app makes one kind of connection: once a day it checks this website for a newer version, and downloads it if you choose to install it. Like any web request it reaches the server with your IP address, and it names the app's version; it carries no identifier and nothing about your Mac or your ledger. You can turn it off in Settings ▸ Updates.

Children

The apps are not directed at children and collect no information from anyone.
